Mitt Romney gelooft in mormoonse Apocalyps

Alternet, 2 november 2012

Watch Mitt Romney get in a heated exchange with a radio host  from a radio interview in 2008 about where Jesus will reign and rule over the Earth for 1,000 years - in Jerusalem and Missouri. Romney displays deep familiarity with the thinking of a Mormon hermit-conspiracy theorist Cleon Skousen, who was also Glenn Beck's great inspiration.

Romney: 'The [mormoonse; K] church says that Christ appears on the Mount of Olives and splits the Mount of Olives and appears in Jerusalem. [...] And then over a thousand years, a millennium, the world is reigned at two places, Jerusalem and Missouri. [...] Cleon Skousen has a book called A Thousand Years [Romney vergist zich, wel zit 'thousand years' in veel boektitels van Skousen; K], Christ appears, it's throughout the Bible, Christ appears in Jerusalem, splits the Mount of Olives to stop the war that's coming to kill all the Jews.'

God beware ons voor deze godsdienstwaanzinnige kandidaat-president van het land met het sterkste leger ter wereld. 'Profetieën' kunnen immers self-fulfilling prophecies worden.

The incident, from a 2008 Romney appearance on an Iowa radio show, was alsodiscussed by Mark Hemingway of National Review Online, who described:
'You and I share a common affection for the late Cleon Skousen,' the radio host says. The former governor agrees, affirming Skousen was his professor and when the radio host professes his fondness for Skousen's book The Making of America, while he acknowledges he hasn’t read it, Mitt quickly says 'That’s worth reading'.

Romney and the White Horse Prophecy
Door Sally Denton, Salon, 29 januari 2012

"I don't think the White Horse Prophecy is fair to bring up at all," Mitt Romney told the Salt Lake Tribune when he was asked about it during his 2008 presidential bid.  "It's been rejected by every church leader that has talked about it.  It has nothing to do with anything."
