Let's build a Ukraine peace movement! Peace & prosperity from Vladivostok to Lisbon.

Please note: In retrospect I find this blog is resonating far too much with the propaganda for "Eurasia" of the fascist ideologue Alexander Dugin and his sympathizers.

Peace and prosperity from Vladivostok to Lisbon. Neutral Ukraine benefitting from both Eurasian and European Union.

Here it is: a viable formula for peace in the Ukraine and the whole of Russia and Europe, condensed into sixteen words.

If "neutral" sounds too Cold War-like, maybe "Ukraine as middle ground" is better.

Just google "from Vladivostok to Lisbon" Putin Merkel and see how Putin (in 2010) and Merkel (last month)  hinted at a process which could be aimed at transforming the present conflict into a win-win-win situation:
'In December 2010, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed a document portfolio, establishing the "Common Economic Space"[*]. A month earlier, Putin had given a widely noticed interview for the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, in which he proposed establishing a "Common Economic Space" from Vladivostok to Lisbon.' [source]
'The ultimate end goal, the German chancellor said, was to have broad economic cooperation "from Vladivostok to Lisbon, as President Putin himself once said".' [source]
Of course, loads of 'details' will have to be sorted out moving in this direction.

But first the will to take this course toward peace must manifest itself collectively and publicly.

Let us build a peace movement - before the time is running out!

Footnote

[*] Oddly, in the heart of the emblem of the Eurasian Economic Union it shows the entire landmass of Europe (including Western-Europe minus, for whatever reason, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom and Ireland) and Asia (including India, China and the Arabic Peninsula). Let's assume this has only symbolic meaning and is not a visualization of Putin's geopolitical, let alone military ambitions.

It would usually be difficult to find more polar opposite views to U.S. foreign policy, but when it comes to Ukraine, the anti-war intellectual and the former U.S. Secretary of State have more in common than either might like to admit.

Fear of Vladimir Putin grows in EU capitals amid spectre of ‘total war’
Ian Traynor, The Guardian, 6 February 2015

Analysis: That Angela Merkel has gone to Moscow speaks to the sudden gravity of the situation in east Ukraine.

Close Friend [Medvedtsjoek] of Russian Leader Takes Role as a Negotiator for Ukraine
David M. Herszenhorn, International New York Times, 11 February 2015

[...] Mr. Medvedchuk’s close ties to Mr. Putin are no secret, and he was in Belarus on Wednesday for negotiations between the Ukrainian government and Russian-backed separatists waging war in eastern Ukraine. But in a sign of the inscrutable nature of Ukrainian politics, he was there not on behalf of the Russian leader or the separatists but for President Petro O. Poroshenko of Ukraine [...].

The War Next Door: Can Merkel's Diplomacy Save Europe?
By Spiegel Staff, 14 February 2015

[...] in the Ukraine crisis, Merkel is infusing her biography with completely new meaning. She is now drawing parallels between Ukraine and the construction of the Berlin Wall. Until recently, East Germany served as justification for her commitment to freedom and human rights - a commitment that had to be defended on the battlefield at times. Now, though, East Germany is serving as an illustration that there are situations where nothing can or should be done.

Geert Groot Koerkamp, Trouw, 13 February 2015
